About
Arab world
The Arab world consists of 22 countries in the Middle East and North Africa: Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Oman (the Gulf Cooperation Council countries). Palestine (the occupied territories), Lebanon, Syria and Jordan (called Bilad al-Sham). Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco (called the Maghreb countries). Iraq, Yemen, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Mauritania, Somalia, Djibouti and Comoros.
The combined area of the Arab countries is more than 5 million square miles, with a total population of 423 million for the year 2022.
Arab countries are rich in natural resources and have huge reserves of oil and gas. The tourism sector is the fastest growing in the region, especially in Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Jordan. Another industry that is growing steadily in some Arab countries is telecommunications. In less than a decade, local companies such as Orascom and Etisalat have been able to successfully compete internationally as global players.
The Gulf Cooperation Council countries have achieved more economic achievements than the rest of the other Arab countries. However, many major economic projects have emerged recently, especially in Egypt and Jordan, which seem promising. It should also be noted here the launch of the largest project in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and on the initiative of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman within the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, where the smartest city in the world (NEOM) will be built with investments of 500 billion US dollars.
